Description
In 2021, Canada’s $2 circulation coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of one of Canada’s greatest contributions to medical research: the discovery of insulin in 1921.
To commemorate this special moment in Canada’s history, the Royal Canadian Mint is offering a coloured and uncoloured version of the 2021 $2 commemorative coin. For sure, these coins will serve as a lasting memory of how a Canadian breakthrough has had an immediate impact over the last century.
- Blue is the colour of diabetes awareness. Each selectively coloured $2 Discovery of Insulin Coin features a touch of blue that highlights insulin on the 100th anniversary of its discover.
- Full roll of uncirculated coins. None of these coins have been circulated — they still have that newly minted look.
- A special connection. Celebrate a Canadian innovation that has had a global impact! Chances are, you or someone you know has a connection to this discovery, which has saved countless lives worldwide.
Two million coloured coins and one million uncoloured coins will begin circulating as of today. The coloured coins will show the insulin monomer in the same blue colour used to raise diabetes awareness.
Total mintage of the coloured rolls is 17,000 and 10,000 uncoloured.
NOTE: Coins are excluded from the CCN/CSN membership discount and from free shipping.
