This year-set coin holder offers an affordable, practical solution for storing complete Canadian annual coin sets, making it ideal for both new collectors and long-time hobbyists.

Designed to accommodate Canada’s changing coinage over time, the holder reflects key transitions in the country’s circulating coins. The 1967 configuration is suitable for all Canadian coins issued up to and including 1967. That year marked a major shift at the Royal Canadian Mint, when silver coinage was replaced with nickel, resulting in size changes to some of the coins.

The 1987 configuration reflects another milestone, when the Mint replaced the nickel dollar with the $1 “loonie,” altering the composition and format of Canada’s circulating dollar coin. The holder is designed to accommodate this change.

In 1996, Canada introduced the $2 “toonie,” adding a new denomination to circulation. This holder includes space for the toonie, ensuring later year sets can be stored together in a single, organized format.

The 2013 configuration is designed to hold all circulating Canadian coins issued at that time, with the exception of the one-cent coin, which was eliminated from circulation in 2012.

The Canadian 50-cent coin was removed from general circulation in 2004. While it remains an official legal denomination, the Royal Canadian Mint ceased distributing the coin to financial institutions and now produces it in limited quantities – exclusively for collectors. These coins are typically available for purchase directly from the Mint in special wrap rolls or souvenir sets at a premium above their face value.

Together, these holders provide a cost-effective way to store, display and organize annual Canadian coin sets as the country’s coinage evolved. They are an excellent alternative to more expensive custom albums, offering collectors a simple, durable and budget-friendly storage option.
